We've just discovered a new radio programme called "Inside Education" broadcasting every Sunday at 19.30 on 103.2 FM in the Dublin area, and repeated sometimes in the afternoons. They also have a website where podcasts of their programmes are available.. Interesting articles about current issues and happenings, and policy matters - particularly relevant currently, with eg changes in teacher deployment policies afoot. Click below to get the link on our homepage.

Another useful website is that of the National Parents Council where updates on current issues are also published. For example they have published the Government's advice to school Boards of Management in relation to days lost due to unforeseen circumstances. Loreto Dalkey BoM is working on a policy in this area and, as with all policy development, will be consulting with your PA committee about this. Please let us know if you have views on this, through the website or by dropping a note into the office.

In their project they examine whether birds "poop" on some coloured cars more than others.
They were among the 20% of entrants who qualified to display at the show, and we encourage you to support them by visiting the RDS next Thursday and Friday. First Years will be brought by the school on Friday.

23 December -The Parents Association committee would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and all the very best in 2011! Remember, the committee is made up of parents reps from each year. 23 December -We will be updating the contact lists over the holidays so please put in your details if you'd like a copy. We have stopped using the contact lists to issue e-mails from the PA. The parents association committee would like to invite parents within each year to form sub-groups for their year, to be a contact network and arrange year-specific events for parents and students.

Please consider getting involved! It's a great way to make new friends, especially if (like me when mine started) your daughter has not been to Loreto primary and you don't know many other parents. And it's a great way to stay in touch with school as your girls grow through the years and tell you less and less ....

Please contact your year rep to hear more. We particularly would welcome involvement from parents living outside the Dalkey area.

Remember, the parents Association is the whole set of parents, not just the committee. We are a key part of the school community, and we are very lucky to have a Principal who welcomes parental input and involvement. So if you have ideas, or just a pair of helping hands, come on board?

The message was clear - our daughters can be at risk of exposure to unwanted material and worse; and it is almost impossible to keep pace with technology.

The real issue for parents is to build a relationsihp of trust with our kids so that they will tell us if they are in a situation they can't handle. However we did get some tips on how to monitor computer usage and protect from exposure to unwanted material and we will put up useful links here shortly.
